Dr. Aisha Lateef (Vice Secretary)

Dr Aisha Lateef is consultant Rheumatologist and Internist at National University Health System, Singapore. She graduated from Karachi University, Pakistan in 1992 and practiced as a primary care physician till 2000. She moved to Singapore in 2001 and joined National University Hospital, where she received post graduate and advanced specialty training in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. Dr Lateef received further training as rheumatology research fellow at Johns Hopkins Lupus Centre, MD, USA, with Dr Michelle Petri, in 2010.

 

Her main research interests are clinical and translational research in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), with special focus on plasma microparticles and accelerated atherosclerotic risk. She is a key member of “Lupus Microparticles Research Group”, a team of researchers focused on studying the role of microparticles in SLE. Dr. Lateef also has a keen interest in clinical management of pregnancy in rheumatic diseases. She has published many recent articles and text book chapters on different aspects of SLE management, serves as a reviewer for many rheumatology journals and is a co-editor of Lupus Newsletter, Singapore.

 

Dr Lateef is a member of Royal College of Physicians, UK, and Fellow of Academy of Medicine, Singapore. She plays active role in multiple local and regional rheumatology organizations and committees including, Chapter of Rheumatology, Academy of Medicine (Singapore), Lupus Association of Singapore, Singapore Society of Rheumatology, and Asia Pacific Lupus Work Group. She is also one of the founding members of SOCRATES, Society for Clinical Research and Translation for Extracellular Vesicles, Singapore.

 

Dr Lateef is enthusiastic about teaching medical students and junior doctors. She is a core faculty member of the rheumatology fellowship program at National University Health System, and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.
